For example, with a SAN of *.example.com, Envoy would incorrectly allow nested.subdomain.example.com, when it should only allow subdomain.example.com. This defect applies to both validating a client TLS certificate in mTLS, and validating a server TLS certificate for upstream connections. This vulnerability is only applicable to situations where an untrusted entity can obtain a signed wildcard TLS certificate for a domain of which you only intend to trust a subdomain of. For example, if you intend to trust api.mysubdomain.example.com, and an untrusted actor can obtain a signed TLS certificate for *.example.com or *.com. Configurations are vulnerable if they use verify_subject_alt_name in any Envoy version, or if they use match_subject_alt_names in version 1.14 or later. This issue has been fixed in Envoy versions 1.12.6, 1.13.4, 1.14.4, 1.15.0.","title":"Description of the CVE"},{"category":"legal_disclaimer","text":"CSAF 2.0 data is provided by SUSE under the Creative Commons License 4.0 with Attribution (CC-BY-4.0).","title":"Terms of use"}],"publisher":{"category":"vendor","contact_details":"https://www.suse.com/support/security/contact/","name":"SUSE Product Security Team","namespace":"https://www.suse.com/"},"references":[{"category":"external","summary":"CVE-2020-15104","url":"https://www.suse.com/security/cve/CVE-2020-15104"},{"category":"external","summary":"SUSE Security Ratings","url":"https://www.suse.com/support/security/rating/"},{"category":"external","summary":"SUSE Bug 1174076 for CVE-2020-15104","url":"https://bugzilla.suse.com/1174076"}],"title":"SUSE CVE CVE-2020-15104","tracking":{"current_release_date":"2025-02-17T06:29:24Z","generator":{"date":"2023-02-15T03:57:06Z","engine":{"name":"cve-database.git:bin/generate-csaf-vex.pl","version":"1"}},"id":"CVE-2020-15104","initial_release_date":"2023-02-15T03:57:06Z","revision_history":[{"date":"2023-02-15T03:57:06Z","number":"2","summary":"Current version"},{"date":"2025-01-01T05:29:34Z","number":"3","summary":"Current version"},{"date":"2025-02-15T06:08:43Z","number":"4","summary":"Current version"},{"date":"2025-02-17T06:29:24Z","number":"5","summary":"Current version"}],"status":"interim","version":"5"}}}
