I've installed the Vesa-Pekka Palmu apm kernel, and now my laptop can
turn its power off when
it shuts down. Very nice. Thank you, Vesa-Pekka Palmu! (For anyone
else who wants to do this, I also had to get a version of the halt
command that accepts the -p flag, and insert -p in the command in the
shutdown script.)
Everything else works just as before, except that I get an error message
saying that there is a symbol mismatch in the pcsnd module (which I
don't actually use). So if anyone wants to use both apm and pcsnd, it
looks as if the pcsnd module will need to be recompiled for the apm
kernel.
