i dunno ... i though that other distros could handle rpm's , and can't you
convert an rpm into a .tar.gz? i am sure you could get gcc for libc5 from
http://gcc.gnu.org/
maybe , i havent looked. you could probably install it with a bit of
fscking around with mu .. :)
