Notes:
'counter' has one cosmetic fix. The old version printed help that ran off the
right side of the screen, because it used "$0" to print its own name. Now it
does a 'basename $0'. More tidy.
'gateway' is the same as my last one, (10/1/00), plus 'domainname'. It has a
fancy rustic 'dirname' (believed to be bug-free, knock on wood) that can handle
Win95 file names. Programs that call 'dirname' may work better with it. (I
also have a 'dirname' test script, if anybody wants it, to compare it to other
'dirname's.)
