There are several aspects but the most significant one is that I'm
very enthusiastic but also very new to the linux/ unix world, trying
to learn the most important commands and to understand the how-tos and
the man pages (from the web). So, in general, I need a stripped down
version with no extras ... just the basic stuff (I use both, mulinux
installed to my hd and Tom's rtb linux, for learning and training ...
Suse, Redhat, FreeBSD, OpenBSD include too much for an overview, even
in their minimal installation; Caldera etc show other problems).
Currently, I can do in mulinux the same things I can do in ms-dos.
On the other side, there is still so much to learn. In example, I
still don't know what I would need for a dial-in modem connection
(no dhcp) ... there, I'm waiting for Robert Warnke's German tutorial
on modem configuration (btw, I've learnt a lot from his tutorials).
Also, I'm afraid that x-windows will not work on my Thinkpad 340 CSE,
which is an 486 SX 33 and has a special architecture like most IBM
notebooks. (Further and because I'm too unexperienced, I see no
advantage in using x-windows over mc and command lines.)
... I need the gcc add-on, more correct f2c, because I love to program
in fortran though I've moderate knowledge in f77 only.
