Seeing All RAIDs in the Network
What are the RAID Agents?
The management software depends on software sub-modules, RAID Agents,
to communicate between software and RAID subsystems.
Where or When should the RAID Agents be Installed?
Out-of-Band (connection via Ethernet): RAID agents come embedded
in the subsystem series firmware and there is no need to install them if the
subsystems are connected to a network via its Ethernet port (RJ-11).
In-Band (management via host IO/ ports): If connections are
made using In-band protocols, users have to select the first,
Centralized Management, or second installation scheme, Stand-alone
(on Host), to install RAID agents on to the servers that are directly
attached with a RAID subsystem.
What are the Root Agents?
1. Root Agents work with the software's management tool, Configuration
Client, for the centralized management of multiple arrays in a storage
network. Configuration Client is also a notification processing utility, designed
for sending alerts and system events.
2. Root Agents are installed when choosing the first installation scheme, Centralized
Management. The first scheme installs the manager software, Configuration
Client, Root Agents, and notification utilities onto a management station.
3. A Root Agent can be associated with the IP addresses of multiple RAID subsystems,
and it functions like a bridging element among different arrays.
4. When prompted by the connection wizard, click Show Root Agent List,
enter the IP address of a Root Agent, then click Retrieve IP List
to display all arrays being managed by the Root Agent. Select one associated
IP at a time using the connection wizard, the manager can display or configure
multiple arrays in different management windows.
